Comarex has announced the appointment of Marcel Vinay Sr. as president. Joining the company on a full time basis from 18th January 2016, Marcel Vinay Sr. will oversee all global sales activities. With a career spanning 50 years Marcel Vinay Sr. has held a number of senior roles with companies such as TV Azteca, Telecadena and Televisa overseeing sales, telenovela production, pay-TV channels, acquisitions, international distribution and supervision of various operations across Latin America. Considered a veteran in the TV industry and a pioneer in Latin American content distribution to the world, Vinay Sr. began his career as a broadcaster in 1966. In 1969 whilst at Telecadena Vinay Sr. distributed the first Plaza Sésamo (Sesame Street) childrens series in Latin America and launched 15 full power TV stations in major Mexican cities. He formed a TV network in Mexico City with Channel 8 as an affiliate in 1971 and in the following year merged with competitor Telesistema Mexicano, which later became Televisa. Entering the international distribution arena in 1974 as president of Protele, a Televisa subsidiary, Vinay Sr. was in charge of distributing the first telenovelas ever sold in the world. He stayed with Protele until 1994 before moving to TV Azteca, where he was VP of International Sales. During his time at TV Azteca Vinay Sr. was also involved in content acquisitions, telenovela and series production, channel programming, Pay TV channel development and distribution and music production.
