Carolina Leconte is always going up. With more than 20 years in the industry, she is an executive that has sculpted her career with hard work and her name is linked to the most successful productions and companies.
Leconte was recently named Director of Original Series for Latin America at Netflix, where she will develop high-budget miniseries for the streaming giant. “They stole her,” said her previous boss,
Carla González Vargas, CEO of Gato Grande Producciones, the joint venture between MGM and the Mexican entrepreneurs Miguel Alemán and Antonio Cué. Carolina Leconte reached Gato Grande as Development and Creative Production VP as well as producer at the beginning of 2019, with a focus on premium content for platforms and in her time in the company, she was essential in the development of important productions, such as seasons 2 and 3 of Luis Miguel, La Serie (in the second delivery she was the producer), among others.
She studied Social Communications and Journalism and also has a specialization in Marketing. At a very young age, she started working in a production company in edition and as a production assistant. She was part of Blockbuster Colombia, in charge of content negotiation and audience analysis.
Later, she arrived at Caracol Televisión as Programming and Acquisitions Director. She rapidly went on to become Director of Co-productions, Marketing Director, and Director of Programming and Acquisitions. There she reaffirmed that her passion was telling stories. Then she moved to Mexico to become the producer in charge of the series El Señor de Los Cielos, season 1.
After that, she went on to Sony as Creative VP, thanks to an invitation she received from Angélica Guerra. During her stay at Sony, she was in charge of looking for content that was relevant for audiences, according to the screen and target of each project. Additionally, she led the writers’ teams during the whole process, from the creation, development of characters, route maps, scripts, and layouts. In the company, she was involved in productions with a strong female approach, such as Rosario Tijeras, Paquita La del Barrio, La Bandida and La Guzmán.
