Octavio Gallegos ESPN Con Talentos
La Semana de La Mujer, which ESPN has been celebrating for 10 years and which was called previously Ladies’ Week, has seen the participation of female talent increase exponentially.
Octavio Gallegos, senior producer of ESPN Mexico, said that for the last 10 years there were only three presenters for the news show that runs between 10pm and 12pm. “With the growth of the company, there are now nine news programs and we cover other shows like Los Capitanes, Toque, ESPN AM. The growth has been exponential and we keep on growing. There are between 12 and 15 more shows in the US, Nation, radio with Jorge Ramos and his band.
Presenters Cristina Alexander, Kary Correa, Carolina Padrón and Vanessa Huppenkothen participated in the event, telling how they have seen this evolution of female talent within the channel. “ESPN has always been a pioneer in giving the opportunity to train people. We are genderless journalists and we compete with everyone. I have felt in eight years that I have had opportunities to grow and I have taken advantage of them. I have seen the growth because during three hours we are some 20 women working” said Padrón. They said that Natalia Álvarez is soon joining the group that is going to make a newscast for Central America, SportsCenter Central America.
