Telemundo announced the arrival of Turkish drama La Sultana, premiering Monday, October 29 at 8pm/7c. La Sultana is produced by Tims Production.
Starring Beren Saat (best known for her role in Fatmagul), Anastasia Tsilimpiou, Ekin Koç, and Hülya Avşar, the Turkish series tells the true story of Kosem, the sultan who helped shape a nation’s history as one of the most powerful women of the seventeenth century.
When Ahmed I (Ekin Koç) ascended to the throne as Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, he became passionately obsessed with Anastasia (Tsilimpiou), a young woman who had been separated from her family by order of Ahmed’s grandmother and forced to join his harem. No one could have imagined that this ‘gift’ would change the fate of an empire. Over time, Anastasia reciprocated the sultan’s love and eventually became his wife, taking the name of Kosem.
Kosem would govern the Ottoman Empire for 40 years, during which time she earned the love and sympathy of her people and became a symbol of imperial power and magnificence.
La Sultana is a high-quality production filmed in fascinating locales on the Greek island of Chios, featuring more than 100 actors dressed in elaborate period costumes in order to recreate the grandeur of the Ottoman Empire in the 1600s.
