Connectivity capability is the basic element to compete towards the future in the new TV via OTT, was one of the conclusions of the opening panel of NexTV CEO Latin America 2018-Miami, How the business of TV via OTT is going to change the business of TV.
Ananías Escamilo, general manager, Cablevisión Peru; Rodrigo Aliaga Prado, director of Digital TV Cable; Rohit Mehra, Sales VP at Nagra and Hugo Cosentino, general manager of San Luis CTV, were the members of the panel and the chairman was Esteban Matías Borrás, Commercial VP at Claxson.
“It is all based on connectivity capability: mobility, portability, versatility, and quality in distribution. Technology has to be able to handle this scenario of Internet protocols,” mentioned Aliaga.
“OTT allows the reinvention of content distribution. Linear TV can transform into VOD and respond to new consumer needs. The cell phone is the quintessential screen, it is the future,” commented Cosentino.
According to Escamillo, OTT is an opportunity and Cablevision Peru has learned to co-exist with Netflix. “In 10 years, if we do not adopt modernization, we are going to disappear. What generation Z and millennials consume is streaming,” he added.
Mehra from Nagra warned that pay-TV must seriously attack the problem of piracy that represents 16% of the business in LatAm.
Escamillo added that in order to compete, it is necessary to have your own content and that they plan to launch a production company in less than three years.
