For the first time in U.S. television, Telemundo premieres the internationally successful series El Secreto de Selena (Selena’s Secret), the revealing story behind the tragic death of the Tex Mex queen Selena Quintanilla on Sunday, August 25, 2019, at 10pm/9c.
The mini-series, also available with English subtitles, revolves around the investigation and trial of the murder of the beloved Tejano music legend. An adaptation of the bestselling book by Telemundo journalist, María Celeste Arrarás, the series presents what has never been told, the turbulent events that took place months before Selena’s death and sheds light on what happened the day she was fatally shot.
El Secreto de Selena provides viewers an intimate and investigative look into the most shocking murder of a Latino celebrity, the death of the renowned Mexican-American singer, killed by the president of her fan club and personal friend, Yolanda Saldívar. The series is also an in-depth journey into how the murderer’s mind worked, whom Arrarás interviewed exclusively.
El Secreto de Selena revolves around three main characters: Selena (Maya Zapata), who gives everything to achieve success; Yolanda (Damayanti Quintanar), who has a fixation with her idol; and María Celeste (Sofía Lama), the journalist who had exclusive access to those involved in the story and led an extensive investigation surrounding the assassination.
In addition, the bestselling author of El Secreto de Selena and host of Telemundo’s Al Rojo Vivo, María Celeste Arrarás, fully participated in the creation of the screenplay and debuts as co-executive producer with Fernando Barbosa, Luis Balaguer, Leonardo Aranguibel and Francisco Cordero, in this production by Buena Vista Original Productions, Moconoco, LatinWE, as well as the production house of this series, BTF Media.
