Alejandro Rojas, Regional Director of Latin America of Parrot, gave a talk during MIP Cancun, focused on Spanish and Portuguese content trends.
“The content in Spanish has been growing rapidly, although Portuguese also but not so notorious. For this we are using Mexico and Brazil as a reference” said Alejandro Rojas.
According to Rojas, in Mexico for every eight new titles in a foreign language on the platforms, there is one in Spanish. And in Brazil for every nine foreign titles, one is in Portuguese.
“We have detected that the content in Spanish is more attractive, in the case of Amazon, one in five new productions are in Spanish, and in Netflix one out of ten,” said Rojas.
“We also will be analyzing how the new content is being desired by the platforms leaving in the background the products that have already had the first window. An interesting topic we have seen is that to grow in subscribers, dramas work well, but to retain those users documentaries help” he added.
Finally, they will be talking about why it makes sense to make a remake or a spin-off and how to make the decision. For this, they will analyze two productions: La Usurpadora and El Corazón Nunca Se Equivoca.
