“Latin America is an attractive market for children´s content,” expressed Luis Villanueva, president, and CEO of SOMOS Group, owners of the children´s signal Semillitas and the mobile app Pingüinitos.
He explains that the number of children in the region, the need for good entertainment, the increasing incorporation of women to the work market and greater penetration of Internet and electronic devices, make availability of audiovisual entertainment increasingly necessary.
He furthered that Semillitas grows continuously in the Caribbean and Central America, with presence in Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and soon in Mexico. In the US, distribution is solid, both in cable and in telcos, he assures.
“We are not only growing in the distribution of the linear signal, but the market has become attractive for mobile applications such as Pingüinitos. We found an excellent reception and the development is stimulating in terms of mobile and cellular entertainment. The penetration of these devices is quite high and there is already an awareness of the risk of access to unprotected programming, even if it is free,” explains Villanueva.
In these months, Semillitas is programming animated programs such as Piking y Sus Amigos, Mini Aventuras, Little People, Doozers y Mouk, that share space with series like Sid, el Niño Científico, Doodle Boo, Angelina Ballerina and Bob el Constructor.
“Animation and its technological variations make it immune to certain factors of the pandemic. We think that in production there will not be too many negative influences,” he ended.
