“The launch of the national Telemundo newscast for the weekend is additional proof of the commitment we have with information. We have almost doubled the news slots,” expresses Vanessa Hauc, host of Noticias Telemundo Fin de Semana aired on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:30pm.
Hauc, who is Peruvian and also the director of Noticias Telemundo Planeta Tierra, an environmentalist news segment of the network, emphasizes that now, more than ever, it is necessary to be with the Latina community “at a time when we are suffering a pandemic and an economic recession”.
She feels that the network has been at the forefront in news since the first day of the pandemic with educational specials on the coronavirus. “Telemundo has given people tools for this pandemic”.
She highlighted that the company has taken very strong precautions to avoid the risk of contagion at the Telemundo Center where only the essential hosts of the show and the producers (restricted to the control room) are allowed to go in. Correspondents work from their homes, they are at the location with the cameraman, the edition is done remotely. Robotic cameras have been very useful on the set. “I have felt very safe. When you enter the building, they take your temperature and everything is automated for contact to be minimum. They gave essential workers security,” she said.
Hauc highlighted that she resumed her Planeta Tierra segment. “Now, more than ever, the world realized that we are doing something wrong and it has been a warning for all of us,” she ended.
