Laura Pérez, general director of North LatAm Hub, Mexico, Colombia, and Latin America North and SVP of LatAm Content Distribution at Paramount, said during NexTV Series Mexico that the majority of users connect to Pluto TV through smart TVs. “We see an exponential growth of connected televisions since eight out of ten users use their televisions or Smart TVs to watch streaming content. In Mexico, one in seven Pluto TV users connect through a Smart TV,” she said. They predict a 20% increase in platform users connected to smart TVs by 2023.
According to a study about Pluto TV users, in the rest of Latin America, 64% of streaming sessions go through connected televisions, 21% through cell phones, and 14% through the web. “72% of users in Mexico watch Pluto TV through televisions, followed by Brazil (66%), Chile (53%), and Argentina (49%). In the case of cell phones, Colombia is in the lead with 33%, followed by Chile with 26% and Argentina with 22%. Mexico is the country where people connect the least by cell phone to watch Pluto TV, where it represents 17%,” explained Pérez.
In Mexico and Colombia, they have a hub that increases the number of production hours each year to feed their channels and platforms or provide services to third parties. “With the change in the audience’s consumption that prefers digital content, our efforts are aimed at providing the best digital entertainment offer, without neglecting our other lines of business,” she said.
Pluto TV has more than 50 content providers and they offer more than 118 channels, “all very well curated and with different genres,” she pointed out.
Pérez said that they are planning face-to-face events for Mexico, starting in June with the MIAW, in August the Kids’ Choice Awards Mexico, and in September Vidcon Mexico. “Finally we will be able to do Vidcon Mexico, the largest digital convention in the world, which we postponed due to the pandemic and which will take place towards the end of September,” she said.
