With more than 30 years of experience in the entertainment industry, director and producer Nelson Martínez recently joined ViX+ as director, Production Management. In his new position he will become the link between the production and content teams, as to running directly the relationships with the production houses working with the platform.
“This new position is very strategic, because it is the ring that ties together production and content.” He said that he works on two fronts, one related to creating content, so screenwriting falls within production parameters, and the second regarding its execution, so all the process is monitored. “We want the power struggle between writers and producers to end and start working as a team, all focused on the same goal, which is the excellence of our products”, explained Martínez, who also acts as showrunner.
He noted that by turning ViX+ into the entertainment platform in Spanish par excellence and reaching specifically a Spanish-speaking audience, “it gives us the possibility of developing products and stories that are attractive to them. We found ourselves within an infinite universe of possibilities and therefore we already have in development and production more than 70 projects running at the same time”.
He praised the work of small production houses, which are currently proliferating and have the capacity to take on high-level projects, noting that this boom of streaming platforms “has made their work visible”. “There are many companies that produce for ViX+ and I will be working with them from the approval of the budget, throughout all the execution and even in delivering the edited material. I have the opportunity to get involved in all the projects that the platform produces in Mexico, Colombia and the rest of Latin America.”
The main objective of VIX+ and its staff is “to guarantee the audience that they will always find something interesting which they can identify with, those cultural elements that are not far from them, plus international content, but aiming to reach Hispanic speakers.”
From a professional point of view, this new challenge is an important and interesting new page in his career. “Before I was on the production side showing products to my clients, but now I am the client who checks what is produced. The production houses are much more receptive when who talks to them is someone that knows about the business. For me this new chapter means to reset all my knowledge towards another angle,” he concluded.
Nelson Martínez has been a key player in projects such as Kobra I, El Capo, Cocineros al Límite, Cumbia Ninja, Celia, Sin Senos sí hay Paraíso, Sitiados México, Run Coyote Run 3 and La Isla de las Muñecas; working hand in hand with production companies such as Dynamo, Estudios Teleméxico, FOXTelecolombia and RCN.
He was one of the creators who leveraged on the pandemic to develop original ideas and adaptations of audiovisual projects. Some of those titles include Háblame de Tú, Amores de Pandemia, Villa Arruga, Sabrás de Mí, Limpieza Social and La Ruleta Rosa, in formats of dramedy, thriller, series and late show.
