Sabbatical Entertainment announced that it will begin producing a new kid’s property later this year. Miguel Somoza, CEO of the company, who attended the Kidscreen Summit 2023 in Miami, highlighted that the bulk of its catalog, “the meat and potatoes of what we do is kids and family content and that is what we are going to continue doing.”
He added that his focus is content for the 14+ demographic, the most demanded by channels to meet the FCC quota for educational content. He explains that this content allows TV stations more time for advertising than the content for the 7+ demo. “It’s more of general entertainment.”
He recalled that the production of the third season of Planeta de Niños (26×30′) -listed as educational content (IA)- was completed and acquired by Univisión, premiering it last month. While the third season of The world is yours will start production between July and August of this year.
Sabbatical has placed three educational properties on TelevisaUnivision US, Planeta de Niños on Univision, and El Mundo es Tuyo on UNIMÁS. The third was Naturaleza Humana, which was not renewed. In addition, The World Is Yours airs every weekend on CBS affiliates in the US in English.
“We are proud to have a program like The World Is Yours in Spanish and English, weekly nationally on free-to-air TV in the US. It is exciting. Furthermore, we are educating millions of viewers in both languages,” said Somoza.
Somoza also mentioned that they have two series that last month completed production of their first seasons: Animal DNA (26×30′) and El Que Sabe, Sabe (26×30′). “Both are kids and educational programs. At the end of this year we will begin production of the second seasons of Animal DNA and All the Answers in English, the first seasons are already airing on CBS affiliates,” Somoza said.
