Máscara Contra Caballero is a new original fiction series under the Star Original Productions label that will be released on Star+ this Wednesday the 19th. Produced in 2021 by BTF Media, it tells the story of a successful popular music singer who leads a double life as a masked wrestler, who will have to face an entertainment reporter with the mission to find the biggest gossip about him, in order to destroy it.
The cast includes Luis Ernesto Franco (Alex Gorostiza), Paola Fernández (Brenda Paravia), Pamela Almanza (Carol Schneider), Nicolasa Ortiz Monasterio (Rosa La Espinosa), Enoc Leaño (Willy), Úrsula Pruneda (Queta González) and Eduardo Arroyuelo (Ábrego).
Set in different locations in Mexico City, it follows Alex Gorostiza (Franco), a charismatic Mexican popular music singer nicknamed El Caballero de la Cumbia, who after a confusing episode is forced to impersonate a tough masked wrestler known as El Manchas. In addition to coping with a new double life as a music idol and wrestling figure, Alex must deal with Brenda (Paola Fernández), a journalist at a celebrity gossip publication who has been tasked by her boss to “to dig the dirt” on Alex, without knowing that she will end up becoming the love of the singer and masked wrestler’s life.
The new series it’s a comedy-drama that immerses the audience in the world of wrestling, combining elements of romance and hilarious tangle situations. With vintage aesthetics and kitsch elements typical of comics, the production appeals to a multigenerational audience that loves Mexican popular culture.
Fernando Memije (Isaías Robles), Mauricio Garza (Jaime), and Alfonso Borbolla (La Helenoida) are also part of the series cast.
With ten 30-minute episodes, Máscara Contra Caballero is directed by Alfonso Pineda Ulloa, script by Héctor Valdés, and Mariano Carranco is responsible for the general production.
