Thirteen original Mexican productions, including documentaries, fiction and contest shows, as well as an important selection of Korean content, Hollywood movies and series from around the world, will be premiering this 2023 on Netflix.
The offer includes new seasons of The witcher, Cobra Kai, Sex Education, The Crown, Sweet Tooth, as well as Berlin, spin-off of Money Heist. In addition, Lupin 3, Elite 7, for a grand total of 56 titles.
Most fiction proposals in Spanish are Mexican productions, nine titles out of a total of 14, among which there are also Argentine, Colombian and Spanish. Among the Mexican ones are the work by Mónica Lozano, Los (Casi) Idolos de Bahía Colorada and a work by Carolina Rivera, still untitled.
Carolina Rivera’s comedy was created and written by her, together with Lorena Sosa Guzmán, Israel León, Hector Orbegoso, Laura Villa, Gerardo Lechuga, Silvia Pasternac, Lorena Sosa, Flavia Atencio and Claudia Blum. It is produced by La Granja TV Narrative, along with Rivera’s husband, Fernando Sariñana. Starring Sandra Echeverría, Iván Amozurrutia, it’s the story of Gabriel, who tries to uncover the corrupted schemes of a finance institution for which he loses his ranch, and by infiltrating as a babysitter, he falls in love with the mother of the children who is the owner’s daughter and senior executive of the financial company.
Los (Casi) Idolos de Bahía Colorada is about two brothers estranged from each other after the death of their father, but who later return to Bahía Colorada and meet face to face with their past. In addition to being produced by Mónica Lozano and Eamon O’Farrill, it is directed by Ricardo Castro.
Other productions are: La Gran Seducción, a film written by Luciana Herrera and Celso García, with the performance of Memo Villegas, Yalitza Aparicio, Pierre Louis, Héctor Jiménez, Eligio Meléndez, Julio Casado, Mercedes Hernández and Joaquín Cosío. It is produced by Nicolás Celis. It’s the story of a fishing island in crisis and how its inhabitants seek to convince a doctor to move to the island, a requirement for a fish packing plant to be installed there, which will save Santa María del Mar from ruin.
In addition, a new adaptation of Cindy La Regia, in a comedy series that explores the iconic comic book character by Ricardo Cucamongaque, which is not a prequel or sequel to other audiovisual adaptations. Starring Michelle Pellicer, it is produced by Francisco González Compeán, Ruth Cherem Daniel, Martha Sosa and Catalina Aguilar Mastretta.
Produced by Stacy Perskie, directed by Adrian Grünberg and Javier Ruiz, with Pablo Tébar as creator and showrunner, is Bandidos, an action-adventure series, starring Ester Expósito, Alfonso Dosal, Juan Pablo Medina, Mabel Cadena, Nicolás Furtado, Andrés Baida, Andrea Chaparro, Juan Pablo Fuentes, Bruno Bichir, Fermín Martínez, among others. It’s the story of Miguel (Alfonso Dosal) and his accomplice Lilí (Ester Expósito). Both, along with five other bandits, have the secret clue that leads them to a Mayan treasure that no one has ever been able to find. But they are not the only ones after the treasure. Premieres in 2024.
The series El Elegido tells the story of Jodie, a twelve-year-old boy from Santa Rosalía, Baja California Sur, who after an accident discovers that he has Jesus Christ-like powers. It is an adaptation of the American Jesus graphic novel trilogy created by writer Mark Millar and artist Peter Gross. Is produced by Redrum, directed by Everardo Gout and written by Jorge Dorantes, Kevin Rodriguez, Iturri Sosa, Tina de la Torre, Everardo Gout, Leopoldo Gout.
The film El Último Vagón premieres on May 26, produced by Woo Films. It is directed by Ernesto Contreras, who also produces together with Mónica Vértiz Robleda, Alejandro Cortés Rubiales, Rafa Ley and María José Córdova. With a cast that includes Adriana Barraza, Memo Villegas, Kaarlo Isaacs, Frida Cruz, among others. It’s the story of little Ikal and his family, who live on a train that travels across the country so Tomás —his father— works on the repair and construction of train tracks. At a bus stop, Ikal meets a group of children and a teacher, who make him feel that he belongs somewhere.
In addition, Madre de Alquiler, about a woman who rents her womb, created by ída Guajardo and produced by Argos, with Marcela Mejía and Mónica F. Vizzi Ibarra, as executive producers, which premieres on June 21. It is written by Aída Guajardo, Christian Jiménez and Felipe Ortiz.
