La Casa de los Famosos México, produced by EndemolShine Boomdog for TelevisaUnivision, has become one of the most successful reality shows in recent years, both on open TV and on its streaming platform ViX. The production team behind the project, Julia Tradd, Executive Director of Physical Production; Kirén Miret, executive producer and Pablo “Paly” Alonso, showrunner, spoke to #PRODUprimetime with Ríchard Izarra about the production process that includes a crew of more than 300 people.
AN EXPERIENCED TEAM
More than 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry of this team of creatives have taken La Casa de los Famosos México to reach ratings of more than 12 points and an audience of more than five million in its Sunday galas. Therefore, “a cultural phenomenon has been created,” according to producers.
“Kirén and Paly are the heads of the team and have made a huge effort, increased the production elements, and improved the production values,” commented Tradd, who has 20 years of experience and participated in outstanding reality shows produced by major studios.
The reality format know-how of Paly gives him the speed to react. “This is a program where many expected things are planned on a day-to-day basis, but there are unforeseen events that need quick attention, being a live show six days a week,” added Kirén.
Paly compared the production to a soccer game where everyone plays a position, and Kirén performs as the best goalkeeper. “If you do not have a good executive producer that executes, it is useless to let your imagination fly.”
THE CHALLENGES
One of the main challenges when producing content such as La Casa de los Famosos México is training the team, and for Julia Tradd, it is essential to understand the profiles of each person, where empathy is one of its main virtues.
“I allow myself to step aside from the technical part for a bit and take care of the emotional part of the team. EndemolShine Boomdog is a company that loves to do right for the team. I can see that people are well cared for, willing to work, get excited, and are happy with what they do. I possess a strong character, but I have to know how to manage it because there are important decisions to make.”
AN INCLUSIVE PROJECT
Inclusion and gender equality are not only in front of the screen but also in the production team. However, Miret does not believe in gender quotas. “You must have the most qualified person in each position. One of our best hairdressers is trans, and she is not here because we searched for a specific profile. It does not matter how people look, how much they weigh, and their sexual preferences; what matters is having the best team to carry out the best project, and this company allows us to do so.”
