This year, Canela Media is focusing on strengthening its content by investing more in original production and the acquisition of content from third parties. Also, in 2024, they aim to expand in Latin America and increase their investment in technology.
“We want to increase the quality of our in-house content. That is why we have new studios in Mexico and soon in Miami,” said Graciela (Gachi) Ciurluini, VP of Strategic Content at Canela Media.
She mentioned they plan to double our original content production, which currently comprises 700 hours across all verticals. “We are doubling that amount this year, strengthening the news segment. We will have 24-hour news coverage between our studios in Mexico and Miami. We are also increasing the number of hours of entertainment for Ponle Canela. We will develop a new daily show, a magazine, focused 100% on the US Hispanic public.”
She added that they will look for diverse content and production alliances in the programming markets.
Within the original content, the Secretos franchise continues, with more secrets this year, “surprises and more villains.”
She announced the second season of the docu-reality Narco Impacto, “which has become a talking point with a topic that appeals a lot to the US audience.” In the second quarter of 2024, they will continue their alliance with Hemisphere, which includes producing five films.
“Canela will be working hard in its expansion in Latin America this year. We are going to expand to many countries with a different strategy for each territory regarding its audience,” she explained.
Ciurluini noted that they will continue broadcasting the daily mass for their “faithful followers with extensive growth regarding faith,” which seeks inspirational content and is a relevant aspect of Hispanic culture.”
To date, the Canela.TV platform has over 35 thousand hours of content, of which about 13 thousand were acquired in 2023. “We will try to be stronger in 2024 in acquiring content. We have between 10 to 12 releases a week of licensed content, giving us a diversity of genres. Now, with the production of hours of news and entertainment, our day-to-day supply of original content will grow and strengthen,” she said.
She mentioned an increase of over 40% in linear channels in 2023, and now they have 70 linear channels within and outside of Canela. “We are looking for new channels to add to the platform,” she concluded.
