The Guadalajara International Film Festival has become a place where studios like 3Pas find new projects, according to Leonardo Zimbrón, SVP of International Co-productions and Spanish-language Feature Films at the company. He added that events like the Publishers’ Pitch, which takes place within the Industry section, boost the production of new IPs.
“We are here in search of projects and good IPs because this festival allows us to meet talents and new opportunities, both in terms of stories and colleagues with whom we can produce and co-produce. We are expanding the studio’s catalog, which is not just comedy; we also want to have stories with heart and humanity, with humor and of high quality. We will take at least two projects from here for our 2025 slate, which need to be developed and brought to fruition,” he commented.
He emphasized that the Spanish-speaking audiovisual industry is experiencing an important moment. “An example is the path we are opening with countries like Spain, which this year is invited to this festival, where we are initiating co-production processes with a couple of projects already underway. The experiences at this event are generating the results we expected.”
In this context, he mentioned that finding good stories is very difficult. “But to achieve this, you have to dig deep, and there’s no other way to do it than by being at markets and festivals. You need to meet new talents because you never know when you will find raw talents that you can help polish and turn into a success. At 3Pas Studios, we are dedicated to this.”
Despite comedy being the core of 3Pas Studios, they are looking to expand into other genres like thriller, adventure, action, and even horror. “The diversity of stories we’ve found in the various pitch sections at the festival is enormous.”
Finally, Zimbrón revealed that they are finalizing an international co-production, in addition to a couple of other projects they hope to announce by the end of the year for production during the first quarter of 2025. This is in addition to a project they are working on in collaboration with Spain, and they will be part of Iberseries to finalize these projects.
