In 2020, a year in which it was necessary to adapt in record time to the new production mechanisms, The Mediapro Studio managed to deliver 52 productions (fiction and entertainment), 38 of which continue on the air.
Currently, at an international level, the Studio has around thirty fiction projects and three films in pre-production or production, along with almost 70 entertainment formats, spread across different countries and in different phases of development.
Several are ongoing projects in Latin America, a territory in which the group has offices in Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Colombia, and Miami for US Hispanics. “We have been working in Latin America for five years, although the results of the operation are becoming visible now. It is a live, very important market, with exponential growth, with several platforms, corporate fusions, media that create new brands, and increasing screens, which constitutes a huge advantage to cover all the territory from the local offices. From our headquarters in Latin America, we can work in the entire territory and thus ensure a great presence,” detailed Laura Fernández Espeso, general director of The Mediapro Studio.
Likewise, the executive emphasized that “2021 will be a year of many launches with what was already planned for this year and projects that are coming from 2020. The Mediapro Studio has not stopped. We have had to introduce many technological and production innovations, as well as the experience of remote dubbing, the programs made from hosts’ houses, etc., but I am proud because we have found a way to adapt and move forward,” and she gave details about the ongoing projects.
The Mediapro Studio Argentina (Oficina Burman) is preparing the spy thriller El Espía Arrepentido and is shooting Pequeñas Victorias (co-production with ViacomCBS) in Buenos Aires. Both are for Amazon Prime Video.
The office in Colombia is shooting Club 57 (a co-production with ViacomCBS for Nickelodeon) and has a project with Disney+. In Chile they are working on El Discípulo del Chef; in Mexico, they will soon start the preproduction of Las Bravas (together with WarnerMedia for HBO Max); and they continue shooting Implacables, a project born from The Mediapro Studio office in the US.
The US office has begun the development of Is There No Place On Earth for Me, a series based on the homonymous book (Pulitzer prize), directed by John Turturro and adapted by Will Eno, together with Ran Tellem and Daniel Burman. Additionally, it has two other projects underway: Magnificent 6, an entertainment program produced together with Back Road Entertainment, currently in pre-production; and the series El Médico, with Assaf Bernstein, which is in the midst of the scriptwriting.
The Spanish projects that will come out this year are: El Internado: Las Cumbres, launched on February 19 on Amazon Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories; Paraíso, to be launched in the European spring on Movistar+; Los Hombres de Paco (reboot, Atresmedia); the fourth season of Estoy Vivo (for RTVE); and the second of Fernando (for Amazon Prime Video).
They will also launched productions from the United Kingdom Reino Unido (58 Seconds, The Rock, True Miracles) and two cinema films: Competencia Oficial (directed by Mariano Cohn and Gaston Duprat, with Penélope Cruz, Antonio Banderas and Oscar Martínez) and El Buen Patrón (directed by Fernando León de Aranoa with Javier Bardem).
