Sony Pictures Television (SPT) announced at L.A. Screenings that renowned actor, comedian, and show host Adrián Uribe will play Poncho, the lead male character in the Mexican version of SPT’s Casados con Hijos (Married with Children), currently in pre-production.
“It is with great pleasure and excitement that we welcome Adrián Uribe to the stellar cast of Casados Con Hijos. He will help us deliver a fresh take on the Bundy family that resonates with the Mexican audience and captures the irreverent spirit and timeless humor that made the original series a global hit. His long and well-rounded artistic career is exactly what this local version of the show calls for to bring it to new generations of viewers with the gusto and ingenuity that savvy Mexican audiences expect,” said Ana Bond, SVP and Managing Director of International Production for Latin America and US Hispanic, Sony Pictures Television.
“I’m thrilled to be taking on the role of Poncho in Casados con Hijos. It is a huge honor to step into such an iconic character’s shoes and bring my own comedic perspective to the role. I’m excited to be part of the modern spin on this beloved series and introduce a Mexican version of Al Bundy’s character and his hilariously dysfunctional family dynamics that audiences around the world know and love,” said Adrian Uribe.
The series’ showrunner is famed Mexican director Gustavo Loza.
Casados con Hijos is inspired by the worldwide success Married with Children, a format distributed globally by SPT. The show follows the lives of a once-glorious high school football player turned hard-luck women’s shoe salesman, his lazy wife, their pretty and dim-witted daughter, and their smart-aleck son. With offbeat humor and unflinching honesty, the series is one of the longest-running sitcoms in American television history.
Local versions of this series have been successfully produced worldwide, including Casados con Hijos Argentina, which is still one of the most-watched comedy series in the country.
