After its debut in the US, reaching the second place in the box-office, with more than US$million collected, the film Cómo Ser Un Latin Lover, starring Eugenio Derbez and Salma Hayek, reached Mexico, and in its first weekend collected more than US$7 million at box-offices and had nearly 2 million viewers.
The film, directed by Ken Marino, is considered Pantelion´s broadest launch in its history in the US, being placed in more than 1.118 theaters. Pantelion is a joint company comprised by Televisa and Lionsgate, and the film strengthened its alliance with the new company 3Pas Studios owned by Derbez and his partner Benjamin Odell, consolidated in 2014.
“In these times when we Hispanics are being so pointed at, when you manage to make a product that is good, we must feel proud of being Latin. We have tried to make campaigns so they don´t hide, so they don´t quit feeling proud of being Latin,” commented Derbez during his promotional visit in Mexico.
Meanwhile, Hayek highlighted that this film is made for the entire audience; however, “it has an extra for our Latina audience, as a loving tribute to them, because we wanted to talk to them in our language.”
The next project for both companies is Overboard, a remake of Gary Marshall’s 80’s comedy, in which Derbez will be the producer and that will have Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell as stars.
