The brothers Sebastián and Emiliano Zurita, producers and founding partners of Addiction House, and creators of the series Cómo Sobrevivir Soltero (How to Survive Single), said that the third season – premiered on Wednesday, March 22nd on Amazon Prime -, keeps the DNA of the first, but with a visual and narrative evolution, and focusing on self-esteem.
For both producers, the central element to reach a third installment in the midst of a wide range of content is not to stagnate on what we believe works, but to make the product evolve so that it does not remain static. “For this reason, we seek to integrate resources that we did not use in the previous two, such as special effects and flashbacks. We are looking to go a little further, but staying true to the original version, and at the same time take it to the extreme as well as continue to make fun of the things that happen in our guild, which is why the series was born.”
Emiliano said that they are always looking for relevant topics. “These can generally be serious, but we approach them honestly because comedy and drama come from there. In this third season, the theme is the journey to reach self-esteem, explored by the character of Sebastián, who goes to therapy to find out how he can help himself. It’s important to have a character like that because people can relate.”
THE NEW VISION OF NATIONAL PRODUCTION
As for their vision as young producers and sons of one of the most iconic actor couples on Mexican and international television, Humberto Zurita and Christian Bach, they consider that they are living one of their best moments as creators. “There is a great demand, but it will reach a limit, where the challenge is to keep up with products like good quality series because the platforms and users are looking for something new and different,” Sebastián said.
He added that, given these demands, “we had to upgrade the series visually as well as the directors, the proposal, and the topics. In this season we have a part called ‘mock the reality shows’ which is filmed as if we were in a documentary disrupting the entire context, in addition to having between 13 and 14 cameos. This is a good moment to keep valuable IPs like these that already have their consumers and that at the same time are a flagship of Amazon Prime.”
For Emiliano, the most difficult part when starting to produce was understanding that nothing guarantees that your next project will be carried out. “But we have grown a lot after three seasons, now they’ve begun believing in us. However, there is a great paradox because the more ambitious and different the projects are, the more difficult to sell. The ones that you think have been worn out are the ones that sell the most. But in the end, you have to trust your work, and what you are bringing to the table, know how to sell your product in the best possible way, and understand that even though many platforms translate to more opportunities, but also much more competition, not only local but also international. It happened to us with Cómo Sobrevivir Soltero, which has taken us more than four years to push.”
