Alejandra Espinoza, presenter, actress, and more recently executive producer, believes that Latinos in the US have learned to recognize their value, giving them appeal in the country, allowing them to evolve, and making them needed. “Today, we Latinos are very clear about who we are and our contribution to the television industry and the country in general,” she pointed out.
Regarding her work as a host, Espinoza said her biggest challenge is connecting with the public. “What matters is always to believe in what you are doing and give it to the public passionately, as if you were just another viewer. If you don’t trust or believe in what you are saying, the public will realize it, tampering with your connection with them or the show you are running.”
Espinoza began her career after winning the beauty contest Nuestra Belleza Latina in 2007 on Univision, has hosted La Banda, Nuestra Belleza Latina, and Premio lo Nuestro, and now is debuting as an executive producer. “I am excited by the idea of bringing to the table proposals that I, as a consumer, know are needed. The biggest challenge will always be knowing how to listen to the audience and what they want to see on screen. Also, trying to create content different from what television stations are used to. I believe in the phrase: ‘unity is strength’, so working on many of these new projects with the help of 200% Media and Mari Urdaneta gives me great peace of mind,” she said.
Asked about the contribution of social media and how they have changed the relationship with the audience, Espinoza noted that social media has allowed direct contact with the audience. “This helps us not only to communicate with them but also to know their needs in terms of content creation. Social media allows an immediate notion of what will work or not on TV.”
For Espinoza, the main difference between streaming and traditional platforms lies in the opportunity to explore new markets. “Many times, we get used to a type of market, and we forget many people are waiting to see different things on screen. Streaming is an opportunity to create different things I’m sure someone is looking for,” she concluded.
