Amazon Prime Video will bring a new Prime Original production to Latin America and the world, El Presidente, a dramatic series by Gaumont, co-produced together with their partners Fabula, led by Pablo and Juan de Dios Larraín and Kapow from Argentina. It is inspired in real characters and events behind the 2015 corruption scandal “FIFA Gate”.
The series, whose production will begin this year, will have eight, 1-hour episodes, and the director and Academy award-winning scriptwriter, Armado Bo (Birdman), who will direct and perform as Executive Producer of the series. It will also have a stellar cast led by Andrés Parra, Paulina Gaitán and Karla Souza, among others.
Set in cities across Latin America, the US and Europe, the series explores the sport scandal through the story of Jadue (Parra), the president of a low-category soccer club in Chile, that went from being unknown to being a key piece in the bribe conspiracy for US$150 million in the hands of the infamous president of the Argentina Soccer Association, Julio Grondona.
“We are thrilled to bring El Presidente to Prime Video, a title that strengthens our commitment with the production of dear local stories told by the best local talent for our clients worldwide,” said Pablo Iacoviello, Head of Content Acquisition, Amazon Prime Video.
“Gaumont is excited to be working with Amazon Prime Video on our first project, that results from our co-production efforts for television in Latin America,” commented Vanessa Shapiro, president, Worldwide TV Distribution & Co-Production at Gaumont. It is the first Gaumont production since they made Narcos, with their office in Latin America.
