The free streaming platform Riivi, with more than 350,000 active users on the continent, announced it will be on the Roku platform, available in Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Mexico. With this move, the catalog of films and series of Latino origin will also be free of charge for those with access to the app.
With the alliance with Roku, the Chilean platform is preparing its expansion, starting with Mexico and Argentina, and then to the US.
Riivi was born after its creators, Cristóbal Güell and Ilan Oliel, saw the low representation of Latino productions on US streaming services. Regarding this Oliel, co-founder of Riivi, said: “We were able to realize that streaming platforms have a very limited catalog regarding Latin America, and that we’re depicted through highly stereotyped content. That is why this type of alliance with a partner like Roku allows us to increase our presence in Latino homes, bringing our stories and culture closer in a real way and free of cost.”
“Opening our door to Riivi means great benefit to our users, who will have access to free and premium Latin American content,” said Adriana Naves, Roku’s Director of Content Distribution for Latin America.
Users will be able to have access to Riivi’s complete catalog of Latin American productions through Roku, which to date represents more than 500 titles and close to 5,000 hours of films, series, documentaries, and telenovelas from across the continent.
