Cacao & Cía, a joint venture with Patricio Rabuffetti’s Non Stop and the iZen Group, is working now on two main projects, a series about the Costa Rican-Mexican singer Chavela Vargas and another featuring the life of the car racer Juan Manuel Fangio.
“We are full of work and focused on doing co-productions between Europe and Latin America. We are very active in this idea of uniting Spanish-speaking territories. Our partners at the iZen Group have a lot of experience and creativity; they have content that has caught our attention. We have made a great alliance with the companies in our group, where we are active in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Spain,” said Pedro Dávila, CEO of Cacao & Cía EN VIVO with Ríchard Izarra.
Regarding the Chavela Vargas project, he shared that they acquired the rights from María Cortinas, the universal heir of Chavela, who wrote the book Las Verdades de Chavela. “We bought the rights and have been working with Arantza Echevarría, writer, director, and producer, and we have had an excellent creative interaction,” he said.
About the life project of Juan Manuel Fangio, Dávila announced that ZDF joined them “to make it a little more global, more Formula 1.” The production of the races will be in Argentina with great directors, he noted.
“We are excited about how this project will turn out. We are working with Nicolás and Pepe Puenzo on all the creativity, with Carlos Bacetti and Pucho Mentasti looking for other channels to join us. We are seeking a partner in Italy since the story has an important leg there, but with Cacao, ZDF, and Non Stop, we have already put together 90% of the co-production. Now we are focusing on adding someone in Italy and England to secure those territories,” he said.
In addition, Cacao & Cía also has comedy and drama projects, seeking to retain the IP. “It is the time of the market, as we have the financing and capacity to provide good distribution, we are pursuing that intention,” he concluded.
