El Jardín de la Tía Isabel
Canal 22 Internacional is premiering the dramatic adventure film El Jardín de la Tía Isabel, as part of its Butaca 22 film block on Saturday, April 27, at 11pm.The 1971 Mexican film from director Felipe Cazals, considered as one of the most important filmmakers of contemporary Mexican cinema, stars Jorge Martínez de Hoyos, Claudio Brook, Ofelia Guilmain and Gregorio Casal, takes place in the 16th century as two ships depart Sevilla, Spain and become shipwrecked on the coast of America. Survivors, including prostitutes, businessmen, a priest and some crew members, break from the Spanish crown and battles for power ensue. One by one, the survivors succumb to disease, the elements or the passions of others.
