Canela Kids is developing several original productions and the first to see the light of day, between August and September, is El Reto Canela Kids, a dance challenge for kids. “That’s our launch initiative, where we ask kids to submit videos of their favorite dances. We Hispanics love to dance and we want parents and children to get involved in this project. They will be seen on the screen. We are going to put together the best videos” said Maggie Salas-Amaro, Director of Canela Kids, who attended the Kidscreen Summit in Miami.
Salas-Amaro is at Kidscreen looking for relevant local productions that reflect the ‘nowadays’ kid who wants to be represented. She is meeting with traditional distributors from Latin America and the US Hispanic, “who have very good productions, representing regions like Puerto Rico”.
Canela Kids will begin to release content in August, with the launch of Moonbug with CoComelon, Little Baby Bum, and T-Rex Ranch, among others.
“We have a lot of preschoolers’ content, but we are still looking for all ages. We want to look for original productions and work in co-productions. We already have a lot of library content from Nelvana, 9 Story, Boat Rocker, but now we want to go to that next level, in which we produce,” she pointed out.
They also have several productions. One in development about the lives of prominent Hispanic women, trailblazers; in addition to two more projects that will be announced in the coming months: one about cooking and a preschool format.
