Carlos Vasallo, president and CEO of Cine Nostalgia and Cine Estelar

The main goal of Carlos Vasallo, president and CEO of Cine Nostalgia and Cine Estelar is to increase distribution of his channels in the U.S. Hispanic market. The signals are currently being carried by DIRECTV, Verizon and AT&T, and soon by Cox Communications.“We are holding talks with the other big carriers to see if we add at least one of the two by the end of the year. Reaching such a big subscriber base would allow us to back the large investment we’ve made in the movie catalog for both channels,” Vasallo told PRODU.The channels share about 4,500 titles for approximately 9,000 hours of content. Vasallo owns over 2,000 films and continues to add titles to his catalog despite rising prices due to increased competition and low availability.Vasallo does not rule out future distribution of his channels outside the U.S., particularly in Mexico, a natural market for his product.“I hope to be able to distribute my channels in Mexico, I don’t know if it will be in their current form or under a different arrangement. Also, as soon as I liquidate most of the distribution in the U.S., I intend to launch in Central and South America. For now, I’ve decided to focus on the U.S. because it’s where my product work’s the best and where I can make the most money, considering the high level of investment,” added Vasallo.
