Cinelatino will air a televised “parade” of hit films from the Dominican Republic in observance of the annual Dominican Day Parade, which continues in its reimagined virtual format due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Starting on Sunday, August 8, at 7:30am ET /4:30am PT, the Parada de Cine Dominicano will pay tribute to Dominican directors, talent, and culture as well as the indomitable and joyful spirit of the Caribbean country.
To mindfully mark the time-honored occasion while still observing health and safety guidelines, Cinelatino has reimagined the event for the second year in a row, using television as the medium for the 2021 celebration.
The network will air a slate of the island nation’s biggest and most popular box office hits, with titles including Casi Fiel, Cinderelo, Trabajo Sucio, El Fantasma de Mi Novia, Colao, and Los Paracaidistas, along with the exclusive U.S. television premiere of Dos Mejor Que Una. The films feature Dominican icons like Fausto Mata, Frank Perozo, Nashla Bogaert, Raymond Pozo, and Miguel Céspedes, as well as special appearances by international stars such as William Levy, Carmen Villalobos, Miguel Rodarte, and Ozuna.
Nashla Bogaert and Frank Perozo, two of the Dominican Republic’s most recognizable actors/producers and stars of the hit 2021 rom-com No Es Lo Que Parece —now streaming on Pantaya—will present the televised event, featuring some of the country’s most iconic locations.
“Last year, with the onset of Covid, we saw an opportunity to both honors a significant tradition for U.S.-based Dominicans and help us further super-serve the fifth-largest Hispanic/Latino community in the United States. With the annual parade still facing restrictions due to the pandemic, we’re very pleased to continue the initiative and hope to bring joy, quality entertainment, and cultural pride straight to our viewer’s living rooms once again,” said Francisco Giménez, SVP, and general manager of Cable Channels for Hemisphere Media Group, Inc., the network’s parent company.
