In the long-term, CNN en Español will be part of the launch of CNN Plus, the direct-to-consumer service that the parent company is scheduling for the last quarter of this year.
“The idea is to develop direct-to-consumer opportunities together with CNN. We are working with them to see how, when, and where the content will come out, but what it’s final is that CNN en Español is part of CNN Plus plans and that there will be more news about how we are going to interact on direct-to-consumer platforms,” said Cynthia Hudson, SVP and Managing Director of CNN en Español and Hispanic Strategy for CNN / US. She mentioned the possibility that some original CNNE documentaries will be included from the beginning on the platform.
Hudson, who revealed as part of the Upfront announcements the arrival of HD to the network, explained that, although they have been producing in high definition for some time in Miami, Washington, Mexico, and Argentina; it was not being distributed and broadcast in HD.
“It is a process that has taken us time because we are part of the CNN structure. The problem was to make the link with the entire existing structure: distribution, master controls, satellite and that is where a series of processes had to be coordinated in order to be in HD. Ideally would be to launch in HD the new space Domingo de Gigantes, scheduled for the end of September. We hope to be there during the last quarter of this year,” she pointed out.
