Cris Morena, Argentinean television businesswoman, director, and producer, responsible for the creation of youth series, such as Casi Ángeles, Rebelde Way, Chiquititas and Floricienta, among others, sold the rights of Rebelde Way to Netflix.
The program, starring Luisana Lopilato, Benjamín Rojas, Felipe Colombo and Camila Bordonaba in 2002, told the story of the teenagers in an elite school with millionaire parents who had different teenage problems that had not been explored until that moment: sexuality, drugs, and eating disorders, among others.
“They are different from the typical youth telenovelas that are made in the world. And they take a year to reformulate 20 episodes. I already spoke with the showrunner, who is Mexican-American, and they are keeping the same characters; almost nothing is being changed, they just have to get 400 episodes to leave 20. And if everything works out fine, another 20 and so forth,” declared Cris Morena in a talk with Matías Martín for the radio program Basta de Todo on the station Metro 95.1.
After the hit of the youth series on rich schools such as Elite or Baby, Netflix is betting on doing a remake of this program launched fifteen years ago, that would have the same characters: “Mía Collucci, Marizza Pía Spirito, Pablo Bustamante, Manuel Aguirre,” but, obviously with new actors.
The original series had two seasons, 400 episodes, 4 CDs and a film.
