2022 was a great year of growth for Del Barrio Producciones. Hugo Coya, General Director of the Peruvian company, commented that the renewal of the exclusive agreement with América Televisión for developing series, telenovelas, documentaries, and other content has allowed them to double their production hours compared to previous years.
Despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic and the political problems in Peru, Del Barrio’s productions on the local screen have continued to have success: the series Maricucha was established as the most-watched program in its slot; while the second part of the melodrama Luz de Luna, not only was number one throughout its 125 episodes but also surpassed the success of the first season. “Shortly, we will launch the third season of Luz de Luna and we believe that it will be as popular or more than the first two,” said Coya.
The telenovelas Amor de Madre, Mi Esperanza, and Dos Hermanas began to be broadcast in the Philippines and India (distributed by José Escalante’s Latin Media) with great audience acceptance. “This opens the doors to the competitive Asian market for us.”
The premieres of the short films La Rabia (filmed in the town of Lobitos), on Amazon Prime Video, and Zulen y Yo, were also a great success in 2022. First at the Lima Film Festival and then in the US, Spain, Argentina, France, and India, among other countries, with good reviews and several awards.
Del Barrio Producciones 2023 strategy entails the execution of large projects, not only national but also international. “Our enormous challenge will be to delve into our internationalization and prove that we not only connect extraordinarily well with the public through traditional media such as television but that we can also do so with other types of productions on streaming platforms or cinemas,” emphasized Coya.
At Content Americas they will be present at WAWA stand #407 with the feature films, series, and documentary projects for platforms, in co-production with countries such as Mexico, Spain, and Argentina.
