“Close to Me is the first European series co-produced with Mexico, in English, for the international market, which puts us in a new level as a studio, following the global strategy we established from the beginning,” said Fidela Navarro, CEO of Dopamine, regarding the announcement of the first production with NENT Studios UK, part of the agreement between both studios.
The six-episode premium series is a psychological drama based on the homonymous best seller by Amanda Reynolds starring the Danish actress Connie Nielsen (Wonder Woman, Gladiator, Mission to Mars, The Hunted, Boss), playing the part of Jo Harding, a woman that seems to have it all: a lovely country home, two wonderful children an unconditional husband (Christopher Eccleston: The A Word; Doctor Who). But after a bad fall, suddenly a whole year of her life vanishes from her memory. And while she struggles to put back the pieces of the events that happen around her, she discovers that her life was not so calm or perfect.
The international premiere will be under the responsibility of Viaplay, NENT Group´s streaming service. It has also been acquired by Channel 4 in the United Kingdom.
Angela Pell (Snow Cake, Gifted), from The Development Partnership, was in charge of the adaptation. Michael Samuels (The Windermere Children, The Missing, Any Human Heart) will be the director and Gina Carter (24 Hour Party People, In the Long Run, Kingdom), the producer. The shooting is being prepared in the UK.
