Even though in the audiovisual industry the male perspective continues to dominate and melodrama, linked to telenovelas, has not been a priority for platforms, Turner and TNT have been very brave in wanting to take these two topics together with Dopine and production by Amarres, commented Fidela Navarro, CEO of Dopamine.
“Maybe melodrama, which has been so linked to telenovelas, has not been a priority for platforms and that is why melodrama is not carried into series in Spanish as the original language. However, Turner, through TNT, has been very brave in wanting to take these topics with us and that is why they will launch Amarres”.
Navarro participated in the forum “Women´s leadership in the industry” and highlighted that even if more women´s participation is necessary, she, in particular, doesn´t believe in gender quotas. “When I interview possible collaborators, I don´t look at if it is a man or a woman until reaching the moment of the decision. This has led Dopamine in a natural way to currently have five out of seven directions occupied by women, which is extraordinary in a production studio”.
Navarro added that although some TV companies do establish quotas or have produced content about women and in fact, only for women, in their case, they seek to be more inclusive because a character must be addressed from different perspectives.
