Panamericana Producciones serving the Dominican Republic and chaired by the director, Archie López, has been devoted to advertising for more than 30 years producing more than 50% of the commercials on the island. But it also has more than 15 years (in 2006) of making films.
Desiree Reyes, producer, and executive who works in the creative and commercial development of films for Panamericana, said that they already have eleven films, the most recent being the comedy El Brujo, which has been in theaters for 14 weeks in the Dominican Republic and that debuted this Thursday the 2nd in Puerto Rico, distributed by Spanglish Movies of Gustavo Aparicio.
“We have done very well in film production. Our third film, Lotoman (2011) holds the record for being the Dominican biggest blockbuster, above successful foreign films with almost one million viewers, an important number for a small market like ours,” said Reyes. Prior to Lotoman, Panamericana produced the films Mi Novia está de Madre (2006) and Cristiano de la Secreta (2009).
El Brujo already has more than 130 thousand viewers. “With El Brujo we are experiencing something very interesting. It debuted in the first week of December 2022 and continues on the Dominican billboard. It has been an impressive success, after the pandemic it is probable the movie with the longest time on the billboard and that is due to the public preference and the support of movie theaters,” commented Reyes.
“In this comedy, all ages and generations enjoy an authentic banquet of healthy and family humor, we are very proud and happy for sharing again with the great public that has returned to theaters after the pandemic,” said López.
El Brujo begins its international tour with the premiere in Puerto Rico distributed by Spanglish Movies. “We have already had several films on international tours with Spanglish Movies. They have experience and visionary management regarding Caribbean cinema and what it means for international audiences. The tour begins in Puerto Rico, but they’re going to platforms and broadcast companies. We are very happy and excited about the screening of El Brujo,” Reyes pointed out.
El Brujo, directed by Archie López, stars the well-known kings of humor, Miguel Céspedes, and Raymond Pozo. The argument is original Christian singer and music producer, Ariel Kelly. The cast includes Waddys Jáquez, Jochy Santos, Nany Peña, Jacqueline Estrella, Mario Núñez, Karla Fatule, and Juan Carlos Pichardo Jr., among others. Jayden Marine, a young Dominican actor living in the US, debuts with an important role in the Dominican cinema after his participation in American movies and series.
