Spencer Sisters (10×60′), a new Canadian procedural comedy series starring Lea Thompson (Back to the Future) and Stacey Farber (Superman), about a famous crime writer and an ex-police officer that together crack cases as private investigators, was one of eOne Entertainment’s main bets during Content Americas. The series debuts in February on Bell Canada and has already been sold in the US. In LatAm it is looking for a screen.
“For Latin America we are promoting three episodes (Spencer Sisters) to be viewed on Latin American television stations, but it still has no home in the region. In addition, we have our catalog available, from lifestyle and world politics, feature films, true crime, scripted. During the last three and a half years, we have managed to dub a large part of our catalog into Spanish and Portuguese and now we want to find multiple screens for all these shows,” said David Hanono, VP of International Film and TV Distribution for LatAm, eOne Entertainment.
eOne Entertainment also presented Salazar (8×50′), a 17th century period series created by Plano a Plano, which they will produce in Spain at the end of 2023 to be broadcast in 2024. Salazar revolves around the life of Alonso de Salazar, a researcher of witches during the Spanish inquisition. Plano a Plano has the distribution rights in Spain and eOne in the rest of the world. This would be the second production in Spanish where eOne participates 100%, after the success of Operación Marea Negra. “For Salazar we are looking for a co-production partner to do it with us or a prebuy,” Hanono said. Salazar has a budget of US$1.5 million per episode.
During 2022 eOne closed large sales deals in the region with NBCUniversal, Paramount+, Roku, AMC, Globoplay and Sony. “We want to continue with these agreements, and also get homes for our catalogue, either in second and third windows of open TV, because we have a lot of dubbed content,” he stated.
