eOne to represent scripted content from El Rey Network

Independent studio Entertainment One (eOne) and El Rey Network have closed an exclusive worldwide television distribution agreement under which eOne will handle the network’s growing slate of original scripted programming. The announcement was made by John Morayniss, CEO, eOne Television and Scott Sassa, vice chair, El Rey Network. Launched in December 2013, the English-language cable network targets men 18-49 and millennials with bold, visceral content that unites the most culturally diverse generation in television history. Created by renowned filmmaker Robert Rodríguez and FactoryMade Ventures, El Rey is available to over 40 million subscribers domestically and is anchored by original signature dramas, feature films, grindhouse genre, cult classic action, horror/sci-fi and next generation sports. The landmark El Rey Network agreement follows eOne’s September 2013 announcement that the company has partnered with AMC Networks’ to exclusively distribute AMC and Sundance Channel ’s original scripted series internationally, and further positions eOne as a leading global distribution partner for top US networks. The first project under the new El Rey Network distribution deal is the upcoming series, Matador, a scripted thriller from K/O Paper Products’ prolific writing/producing team, Roberto Orcí and Alex Kurtzman. The hour-long drama, scheduled to debut this summer, explores the unlikely rise of Antonio “Matador” Bravo, a popular soccer star, who comes to be known as much for his playboy antics off the field as his dynamic moves on it. But what his fans and family don’t realize is that it’s all a cover – in truth, he is a skilled covert operative executing missions for a little known branch of the CIA.
