Erik Barmack, former VP of Netflix International Content, announced that he left the platform to create his own production house called Wild Sheep, based in Los Angeles.
Barmack said that one of the reasons for leaving his previous job and launching this undertaking, is that he wanted a new challenge, so he could be closer to the content than when he worked for Netflix. “Now I am working directly with producers, talents, before I did not have the opportunity to do that. In addition, I have small children which I did not see too much, so that also influenced this change and thus be able to share more time with my family.”
He said that content is becoming increasingly global, so he was seeking projects and options in MIP Cancun. “Latin American content is seen by more than 40 million people worldwide, so this is an important market, with unlimited potential.”
“The budgets are going to be higher for content in Spanish, with all the new platforms coming to produce in the region, there will be a lot of competition. It is a great opportunity for Latin American talents, directors, producers and writers, especially in Mexico,” Barmack concluded.
