“2021 is going to be a very challenging year for us to recover and get used to the new normality; I think the companies the adapt, that are flexible and change swiftly are the ones that will be able to move ahead more successfully,” said Fernanda Merodio, founder and president of WICT Mexico, in #PRODUprimetime with Ríchard Izarra.
“It is important for companies to have empathy towards their employees, both women, and men, and create the conditions for men to support everything related to the family and the home. It’s not about them helping, but for them to share the responsibility,” said the engineer Merodio in the context of the fourth annual WICT Convention, Women in Cable and Telecommunications, founded in the US more than 40 years ago with the purpose of creating a support and training network for women in the industry to hold leadership positions. The Mexico chapter, the only one in Latin America founded barely three years ago, is growing progressively and now has firms such as Netflix.
“In this crisis, women are the most affected. We are performing as teachers, homemakers, and additionally bringing money, and not all of them are making ends meet, and have had to quit their jobs” she reported. In addition to her work in WICT, Fernanda is Senior Distribution Director of Hemisphere Media Group.
“There is a great opportunity for change, but it is necessary to take the bull by the horns, all of us as a team”.
