Connecting with the rest of Latin American countries to increase the number of projects with Brazil, having Floresta as a co-producer to work with Sony’s catalog of fiction and non-fiction, in addition to original proposals from the production company or possible partners, is the orientation of Flavia Morete, executive director of Content at Floresta, Sony’s production company in Brazil, which is why she attended MIP Cancun for the first time and will be participating in Content Americas.
“We are working to join forces with other territories in Latin America to make international co-productions in Brazil and outside of Brazil because now the Brazilian market and other markets are more open for co-productions,” said Morete, after commenting that in the works that carried out in Brazil are collaborating with people from other production companies and creators, in the creation of international content. “That is why we are strengthening our ties to also produce for other territories,” she said, after commenting that Brazil is opening up to Latin America because, although it is a larger market, it is necessary to transcend the global market. “We also want to expand our content and showcase our stories,” she said.
This makes sense from an economic point of view, to join forces and resources in building powerful content, but also from a creative point of view.
“It was our first time at MIP Cancun, which we described as a good experience because we made good connections, found clients, and met other production companies from other territories. I think we are going to do good business. We will also be in Miami to make new connections. We believe that, at this moment, it is important for Brazil to make these alliances with other territories,” she said.
Morete spoke about the challenge of making novels for streaming, what it means in reducing chapters, adapting to current events, and working on locations. “It is a great challenge that is turning out to be very successful,” she stated about Dona Beja, which they adapted for HBO.
They are preparing an original Floresta reality show, which they hope to premiere next year. They are about to release Luz, Netflix’s first Brazilian children’s series, recently released Rio Connection, and in 2024, will launch reality shows, such as Shark Tank Brazil.
Founded 13 years ago, Floresta works in partnership with Globo, HBO Max, Prime Video, MTV Brazil, Paramount Brazil, Sony Channel, Netflix, and Multishow. Floresta’s portfolio includes -among adaptations of successful global franchises and original formats of various genres- productions such as Tunnel Of Love, Man of The House, In Sickness and Hell, Ex on la Playa, Lady Night, Bugados y Soltos. In addition, other fiction projects have been announced, such as Use Sua Voz and Da Ponte Pra Lá.
