“The spreading of this virus has taken us by surprise. It is not an easy situation. We are facing the TV viewer´s need to be informed and entertained. On the other hand, we must lay out the responsibility we have with the programming,” comments Jimmy Arteaga, president of Programming, Production, and Promotions for WAPA Televisión and Canal 1 in Colombia.
“We are forced to make very rapid decisions. We have a plan that we gradually adjust in order to be able to keep people informed and at the same time, offer them programming alternatives,” says the executive.
“Acquisitions are secondary at this moment, first, we must solve the current issues, pose possible scenarios. We are designing plans both in Puerto Rico and in Colombia,” adds Arteaga.
“We have been working with alternative programming. At some time we will be forced to temporarily close live programs. Therefore, the current measures are live programs without audiences, such as the case of Guerreros”.
“For Colombia, a quota of the local screen must be fulfilled, but when we don´t have mechanisms to do so, regulations must be flexible to allow us to put on the screen foreign productions, a case that would not affect RCN nor Caracol because they have more than 20 years of history with a vast content library,” concludes Jimmy Arteaga.
