Starting December 20, France 24 ´s programming in Spanish will grow from 6 to 12 hours both in information and in new programs. For this, they will occupy, along with the current time band (6 to 8am and 6 to 10pm), a new band from 12 to 6pm (Colombian time) with programming made in Spanish and the participation of the 40 correspondence in that language. On the day of the launch, they will have a joint operation of the four networks (in English, French, Arab, and Spanish) that will simultaneously start their newscast in Spanish.
“We are going to duplicate the programming time and start to enrich the grid with programs such as El Debate, El Carrusel de las Artes and 6 to 27-minute news reports. That is going to bring a two-way communication mechanism because a great deal of what we produce in the office in Bogota is adapted in Paris to all the other networks,” said Álvaro Sierra, director of France 24 en Español.
Marc Saikali, director of France 24, pointed out that they started very small two years ago, but “we are already in 17 out of the 19 Latin American countries. We are present in almost eight million homes,” but with the extra hours we are adding, we will expand even more, “and the audience is going to increase proportionally”.
He added that today they have measured two million viewers per week. “I think we are going to be distributed vastly because we are going to be on the air twelve hours”.
