Pompeyo Pino, director of Radio Americas Distribution and Development at France Médias Monde, commented they are going to celebrate the first anniversary of the launch of France 24 in Spanish on Wednesday 26, in a great event with the delegation of the group in Bogota, where most of the editorial team is.
He explains that France 24 currently “broadcasts 6 hours a day in Spanish, and then we complete the rest with English for the time being. In the future, the part in Spanish will gradually increase. It is practically in all the countries in Hispanic Latin America, I think the only exception is Venezuela, that is to say, that in a year, we have been in more than 7 million homes.” Likewise, he commented that they are making a series on news reports: Río Grande a Tierra del Fuego in all Latin America. “This program is being launched right now”.
He mentions they have interesting projects in Mexico, but they cannot reveal details yet. They previously partnered with the Red Nacional de Radiodifusoras y Televisoras Educativas y Culturales, with which they increased the associated radio stations—700— that partially take content from Radio Francia Internacional.
As operators, he indicates that they reach in the “continent more than 30 million homes, a big part of Latin America, the US and Canada, only on the radio part. It is strong growth”.
The trend in the radio, he mentions, is filmed, a multimedia hybrid that allows being in a website, and visual radio that is near television because it has more production. “Everything is possible thanks to convergence and multimedia”, in which they are very advanced as a group.
