In 2024, Gato Grande will be co-producing a film with Spain, 80% in Mexico and 20% in Spain, plus completing its first international series for the Spanish market.
To get funds for the film, co-produced with Meridional Producciones, Gato Grande will be applying to Eficine, while the Spanish production company is knocking on the door of the ICAA (Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts). Private financial sources will complete the budget.
In addition, they are looking for screens and international distribution. The tentative title of the film, scripted by Marina Selesensky, is Las Mil Vidas.
“We are making our way into international co-productions starting with this first film,” noted Maximiliano Sanguine, VP of Creative Development and Production at Gato Grande/MGM.
He mentioned that, despite the complexities and changes in the industry during 2023, Gato Grande closed well with the post-production of Libre de Reír for Amazon Prime Video that premiered in May. In addition, they produced a fiction series for Amazon – now in post-production – and began three productions: a film with Maite Alberdi, the renowned Chilean director, a docuseries for a global true-crime platform based on the life story of two Mexican serial killers within the agreement with Saskia Niño de Rivera, and a docu-follow with love stories inside prisons for another global platform.
