Conecta Fiction 2018 was a space for debate on the transformation the entertainment industry is going through. One of the presentations was under the responsibility of Luis de Zubiaurre Wagner, from the Gabinete de Estudios de la Comunicación Audiovisual, who directed a panel focused on the fiction data of Europe and America.
“In just 7 years, the offers of fiction series has doubled” explains the academic. Among the results of his study cases, he highlights the fact that “there is an overabundance of series”.
According to the specialist, the irruption of OTTs has brought a growth in fiction that is approximately 90%. “The offer of content is now the greatest in history, but consumption on television has gone down considerably”.
One of the most awaited workshops was the one delivered by Javier Olivares, creator of El Ministerio del Tiempo, on the figure of the showrunner in a production, who is the person in charge of supervising that the initial spirit of the series or film appears on the screen at the end. He added that the key to the success of every fiction program lies in the characters, “who shouldn’t say everything they feel”.
Throughout the workshop, Olivares highlighted series such as House of Cards or Lost as samples of successful projects whose plots, even though they are not simple, have captivated the audience. “The creator has to make a series that allows people to understand the world we live in”.
