Gigi Saúl Guerrero will be the director of the biopic film Jenni, about the singer Jenni Rivera, who died in 2012 in a plane crash. The script was authorized by her family. Mucho Más Media and De Line Pictures will be responsible for its production, and will be released on ViX+ and in select US and Mexico theaters.
Donald De Line of De Line Pictures will produce alongside Javier Chapa, Phillip Braun and Simon Wise of Mucho Más Media. Jenni Rivera Enterprises will serve as executive producer.
The film was developed by Guerrero and screenwriter Shane McKenzie, and features Rivera’s rise as a Latina singer who successfully reached American and global audiences. She also was a recognized women’s rights advocate.
“Gigi is very confident in her voice and storytelling, and has an innate understanding of Jenni’s life. She will honor her legacy by presenting a portrait of this unique icon in a truly authentic way,” said De Line.
“We are thrilled to work along with Gigi, an incredibly talented visionary Mexican artist, to tell the story of Jenni Rivera. This original film will celebrate her life and share how she inspired women and younger generations to overcome obstacles and live the best they can,” said Augusto Rovegno, Senior VP of Acquisitions and SVOD Programming for TelevisaUnivision.
