Aruanas (10×60′), originally from Globo, exclusive for Globoplay, co-produced with Maria Farinha Filmes, is a series written by Marcos Nisti and Estela Renner that expands the discussion around activism and work of environmentalist organizations. It will have a second season.
Despite the heroic nature of the topic, the series avoids presenting activists as heroes. “For me, the hero is a space that is filled with our collective unconscious, it is an archetype, it is not real. I believe in virtues, I admire those who put other people´s lives and collective interests before their comfort,” explained Renner.
“Why does someone venture because of the Amazon region? Why does someone take a risk to prevent warming of the planet, an increase of poverty, migration, violence? I greatly admire people with this concern, and in all those whom I see carry this energy, I notice a common element: they cannot be different, it is bigger than them” he added.
Nisti, for his part, commented that the election of the Amazon region as the environment of history, obeys to its global repercussion, due to its biodiversity and to be the focus of human greed. The series is an incentive for people to start seeing the Amazon region with different eyes. We want to expand reflection and knowledge on this planet that belongs to all of us. The environment, the Amazon region, its advocates, and its offenders are of international interest,” emphasized the writer.
