On Sunday, December 8 the new Peruvian Cinema Law was passed through an urgency decree (022-2019) that promotes cinematographic and audiovisual activity.
The regulatory framework for cinema and audiovisual activities establishes: to generate new financing mechanisms. Along with fiction feature films and short films, it will be possible to finance documentaries, series, videogames and digital products; an annual budget is established to be granted in nationwide competitive and automatic incentives; audiovisual creation is encouraged in the regions; it will be possible to finance projects through donations, deducting income taxes; actions will be promoted to support and highlight indigenous cinema and cinema in native languages; equal rights between men and women in the sector will be promoted; a cinematographic archive to preserve, recover, and exhibit will be created; there will be better conditions to attract international co-productions that generate exchange of knowledge, investment in national territory, and to promote the country as a filming destination; the grant of automatic stimuli will be allowed for international promotion and distribution starting the first quarter of the year; meeting the demands for preservation, strengthening of capabilities, and the education of audiences; TV Perú will be able to co-produce future Peruvian films, documentaries, and series, among others.
