The FAST channel, Todocine, launched by Hemisphere at the end of February, will be followed by others branded Todo, being the next Todonoticias debuting in the upcoming weeks, according to Alan Sokol, president, and CEO of Hemisphere Media Group.
Sokol explained that the FAST model allows those who have good content and haven’t been able to get on the air to “unlock the value of that content.”
“We’re constantly acquiring content. We have 700 films in our library, so we can window them between Cinelatino – as the first window, as a premium window – and then Todocine. We’re very excited about that because we have a lot of value in our library that we have not unlocked and Todocine allows us to unlock it. Similarly, with Todonoticias, we’re going to be able to take news programming that we cannot air on our channels and create a very important unique news channel and news service for people that want to connect to their home countries,” he said.
He added that the focus of Hemisphere’s FAST channel initiative is in the US where the monetization opportunity is greater than in Latin America, although launching in Latin America can be faster because they also hold the rights to the content for that market.
At the moment Todocine has distribution on Canela.TV and Local Now has also just joined. “We have other releases planned that we will be announcing in the coming months,” he concluded.
