Gabriel Patolsky y Veronica Eibuszyc De Inedito Contenidos
The writers’ duo Gabriel Patolsky and Verónica Eibuszyc of Inédito Contenidos, which has been operating since 2014, have a portfolio of more than 20 own projects, including series and feature films, in various stages of development. In addition, both are the head writers of the series Journey to the Center of the Earth (8×30), which Star+ premiered on April 5 in the region.
Patolsky and Eibuszyc have experience working for Disney with the show Opa Popa Dupa (Nat Geo Kids/Disney+/FOXTelecolombia) as head writers and which received a PRODU Award for Best Kid’s Program.
“As authors, it was a challenge to adapt the elements of Verne’s imagination (1864) and merge them with those of Latin American kids and teens of the 21st century. The idea was to keep the identity and spirit of the original adventure but with a modern narrative. We did on the phone the first stage of building the story and the structures of the chapters in the middle of the pandemic,” they commented, adding that precisely this “intensive training of work remotely” during the pandemic is what they use today as a routine.
“We gave body to its main characters and included family and bonding themes that ran through the characters. We had great allies in the writing team, such as Fernanda Riveros and Bruno Luciani, who contributed with their talent and freshness making the characters shine and grow even more”, added Patolsky and Eibuszyc.
In the adaptation, they included an eco-friendly message. “The characters enter this dimension because there is something that is disturbing the core of the Earth. These guys have the enormous responsibility of rescuing the balance of the planet. It is a story that speaks of highly developed family ties: the grandmother, and the brothers. It has a backstory linked to the journey of a kid that is growing up to become a teenager,” they explained.
Patolsky and Eibuszyc define themselves as “project rescuers” or “storytailors”. “Sometimes the production companies have the guidelines and parameters of the project they want very well defined and they trust us with the development process. Other times, projects sank during development, with too many versions, conflicting fixes, and structural problems, or they simply lack what defined their original spirit. In these cases, we work on analysis and repair to restore their essence and try to make them work.”
Currently, Inédito Contenidos is going through a new stage with Eibuszyc based in Buenos Aires, while Patolsky moved to Madrid with the purpose of serving co-production projects for Latin America. “This gaze from two continents is a plus as a screenwriter,” points out Patolsky.
Asked about working with Disney, Patolsky admitted that “it’s a magical thing,” while Eibuszyc said that “it was a great learning experience. They give you very clear guidelines, and we, based on these guidelines, do a very deep analysis: audience analysis. It allows us to do a very tailored job.”
